Judgereport / Dommer rapport Judgereport from XIII RR-Specialty Italy 30. June 2007. First I would like to thank you for inviting me to judge your dogs. You took good care of me and showed great hospitality. I would also like to thank you for the kind way you all accepted my judging. I had a very nice entry and I enjoyed the day in the ring. The place was excellent for dog show. So what is my general impression from your dogs? Your dogs showed great variety in size, angulations, ridge and temperament. Based on my entries I would say that you have some really excellent dogs but you have also some issues you should be concerned with. The major part of the dogs was too big according to the standard, there was also a lot of dogs with lack of symmetrical in outline (front- and rear angulations was not in harmony). Many of these dogs’ lacks rear angulations. Due to these problems this would influence the movements and you had a lot of dogs with short steps. With the correct turn of stifle behind the dog will be moving with long good steps (covering the ground with correct reach & drive as we say) otherwise the dog will be moving with short steps and just kicking up behind. Temperament is very important on a ridgeback and it is vital that they are being socialized. A ridgeback should be able to be handled in the ring, touched and gone over by the judge. I had too many dogs in the ring that was uncomfortable with this. Another issue that you should be concerned about is the length of the ridges. A lot of the dogs had short ridges and this should be looked at as a problem from breeders view. From my trips around the world I have seen that this soon will be a major problem within the breed if the breeders don’t start working on it. You had a lot of dogs with beautiful well-developed
heads, excellent length and depth of muzzle. Lots of dogs also had
well laid shoulder, strong topline and correct top- and underline. I whish the club and the owners good luck in the future.
